Sarah Frisk, Senior Front End Developer
Where do you live?
Maine
How long have you been working at Simplecast for?
Since early December.
What was the first podcast you listened to?
Probably Digital Llama Radio? I was really into Star Wars Fan Films / Audio Dramas way back in the day (2004/2005ish?) and used to listen to Second Strike a bunch. I didn't really listen to podcasts from 2006-2010 but got back into them when I discovered D&D podcasts in the form of Critical Hit and fantasy short stories in Pod Castle. These days I've been leaning more into informative podcasts on the creative process with stuff like Comic Lab as well as improv comedy in the form of Hello from the Magic Tavern and Off Book.
What's your favorite thing to help customers with?
I tend to get a lot of enjoyment from finding issues that I know won't take long from my end to fix, but can drastically improve the user experience of the site. I've also found that I really like working on graphs/charts/doing data visualization.
What's one tip you wish you could give all podcasters?
Listen to other podcasts. Look at podcasts that you feel are more successful than you and see what they're doing that you could be doing. Obviously I don't mean copy their show, but look at how they do things. What's their social media strategy? Update schedule? How do they do their editing? There is a lot you can learn by seeing (or hearing) what others are doing.
Why did you start working in podcasting?
I love listening to podcasts, and I wanted to be able to help podcast creators have an easier time making the things I love.
What are you most excited to see in the podcasting world in the next year?
There are a lot of really interesting features for Simplecast that I'm REALLY excited to work on and I can't wait to share it with everyone.
What skill are you trying to learn in 2019?
A few years ago I used to draw a comic called Tavern Wenches. My goal this year is to get a bit better at my storytelling and art, and start drawing comics again.
What did you want to grow up to be when you were a little kid?
A Jedi. I was just a giant Star Wars nerd. Still am, honestly.
