Wanted: Podcasters Willing to Talk About Money
Hey, how much money do you make?
If you’re like a lot of people (76% of them!) then the idea of answering that question publicly probably makes you deeply uncomfortable. Most people don’t want to talk about money–and we’ve found that to be true with podcasters as well. Ask how much money someone’s podcast brings in and the answers will range from “enough” to “people make money podcasting?” with a little bit of “you shouldn’t be doing it for money!” thrown in. There’s even less information once you start talking about networks, collectives, brands, and businesses who podcast.
But here’s the thing: just like with sharing salaries at work or among peers, you’ll never know what’s possible if you don’t know what’s already happening around you. That’s why we’re launching the Podcast Money Dispatch–anonymous interviews with podcast creators of all sizes and successes, discussing how much they’re making and how much they’re spending on their podcast, plus some lessons they’ve learned along the way. Think of it as a podcast-y cross between Refinery 29’s Money Diaries and Digiday’s The Confessions.
First, though, we need one thing: you!
We want to talk to real podcast editors, creators, managers, hosts, producers, sound designers, and jack-of-all-podcasting-trades (anonymously, of course!). Whether you're just starting out or on your eighth season, fiction or nonfiction, independent or making a podcast for someone else, lone wolf or team player, raking in the cash or operating at a loss–let’s chat! If you’re interested, you can fill out a quick questionnaire right here. We’ll be in touch with more in-depth questions!
